This was the worst as it was in the oil slick. The lady had asthma real bad and couldn't get in herself. She had a coin collection she wanted and about 100 pigs that she wanted us to save what we could. Inside they told us not to take any that weren't metal, ceramic or wood. We had to put the suits all the way on--sleeves too and I left it below the shoes so it collected the stuff from the floor which was just gross.
This woman had lost all hope. Her one brother had refused to help her and her sister is non-functional and her other brother just lost both feet so there was no one to help her and she was still looking for her dog. She was thinking about camping there as she thinks the dog comes home after dark. She had left a shirt with her scent in the back and it had been bothered the night before. I hope and pray she found her as that would give her something. She is living in part of an old barber shop next to a duplex and she said she can hear everything. She hates it. She just looked so hopeless, it was heart-rending.

This is the first house we were working on that day. She had everything sorted and the ladies were mostly just hauling stuff to the curb for her while the men went into the house and finished mucking out and removed the carpets and took them to the curb. This house had mostly water damage. We did find some oil in the backyard but not much. This was a single story house with a finished basement and the basement had an outside entrance.
We all had suits like the one Donna is wearing and like the ladies are wearing in the last picture. These were pretty much required as the lady had been in some stuff already that morning in the yard that had burned her skin. She advised masks because she found that by the end of the day, she was coughing from whatever she had been breathing that day. Dale went into the house without a mask (they were really heavy, hot and hard to breathe through) and sure enough, he had a cough the next day. She lost her trophies and ribbons and I asked if she didn't think she could clean them and she said "they're just worldly possessions. I have pictures of them. I don't have room where I'm at. They'd just be in storage."
