Lancaster to decide on women's ordination this summer

LANCASTER, Pa. — Lancaster Mennonite Conference leaders will decide this summer whether to allow women to be ordained for pastoral ministry.
The conference in March began a discernment process, including 10 regional cluster meetings, leading up to a Bishop Board recommendation in June and a vote by credentialed leaders in July and August.
The 17,500-member conference, the largest in Mennonite Church USA, currently allows women to be licensed for specific ministries — such as associate pastors and chaplains — but not ordained. About 35 women serve in these roles.
